Description

The design is raised in the cuenca style and displays the exuberance of California tile design of the 1920's

Made in the 1920's its carved Gothic design is colored in an array of rich waxy matte glazes that even cover the side edges

on a green leafy branch against a watercolor-like background

Although the design hearkens back to the 1930's I suspect this tile dates from the 1960-80's

Framed Tile of a Sailboat at the Shoreline Elio Schiavon The design is raised inThis pretty antique tile was made around 1910 in England. It depicts a sailboat near the shoreline and is covered in a pale aqua glaze. Made in the intaglio process the image is pressed into the tile and while in kiln the glaze pools into the recesses giving the image depth. The tile measures 6" square. Framed it measures 7 3 4" square. The tile is unmarked. There is some roughness around the edges, hidden by the frame.
